Too often I have been disgusted by a lack of courtesy and respect shown by people that I see. It irks me to no end when I see some able-bodied young people continue sitting in the bus when an elderly or pregnant person gets on, refusing to give up their seat. They stare ahead stoically or even worse, immediately close their eyes and pretend to be asleep. I’ve been flabbergasted several times when I get out of my seat on a crowded bus to allow someone else to sit down, then my seat is immediately taken by someone standing nearby when I turn to offer the person who is in need of a seat my place. Some people just have no sense of shame really. And then, you see students in school leaving their plates on the table during recess or lunch and just walking off, leaving the cleaners to clean it up. How thoughtless can you get? It’s almost as bad as those who leave their tables at a fast food restaurant and walk off to leave an elderly person to clear the table. I think that Neil Humphreys wrote about this in his Notes From an Even Smaller Island. I mean, we Asians are supposed to take so much pride in what we term filial piety, but we can’t show basic courtesy. It’s just so disrespectful.
Another thing that frustrates me is when you try to be civil and polite, simply asking an innocent question, when the listener suddenly turns defensive and upset. I think that some people just think that they’re victimised or something. You ask for questions and feedback, but then get offended when you do get some.
I have to reiterate what I said about tongues a few weeks back.
Yesterday’s talk about grades and career guidance scared me. Grah. Too much work to do and so little time. Jit Yew and I have vowed to be each other’s cheerleaders and discipline-rs to get our 45 points. :) I don’t want to be scared. And yet, Monday’s results are scary.
Now I’ve that off my chest, I can breathe more easily.
I think that typos are very unfortunate, albeit amusing at times. The year 5 and 6 girls will know what I mean. :p But I cringe whenever there’s a typo on the slides at church during the songs. After IB, I shall volunteer to look through all the songs in church and correct all the mistakes. Speaking of mistakes, I shall go and get Eats, Shoots and Leaves soon. :)
Today’s CCA fair was fun. I actually love putting on makeup, not the kind for vanity’s sake, but proper OTT stage makeup. :) It’s a lot of fun when people can’t recognise you, because for once, I can act completely silly and not be too worried about my appearance or reputation.
Oh man, I just realised that I’m going to be eighteen this year. How old…
