“The clever, the witty, the brilliant girl, there are few who can understand. But Oh! For the wise, loving home girls, there’s a constant, steady demand.” – J. H. Gray.

Took this off Hans’ blog. I certainly beg to differ. It assumes that those who are brilliant and witty aren’t wise, and that those who love home are wise too. *grin* You can see where my loyalties lie. But what happens when you don’t fall in either of those categories? Sigh. Not that I am honestly that bothered. Demand is not what I’m bothered about in life anyway. Life’s too short to shorten it with unnecessary baggage.

Definitely retaking Chinese now. Seeing the happiness on Lao Shi’s face when we sang her the song that Ali wrote, made me want to get a 7. I know that I haven’t always been the best of students and not very appreciative. But now I really want to do much better when I think about her sincerity when she said to me this morning, “Grace, you’ve done very well! I’m proud of you!” I’m glad we crashed the Bridging Course to ’serenade’ her. Just the crazy thing 6.14 would do. :)

I can’t type out Chinese because I don’t know how to, but I shall type out the han yu pin yin of the song. It’s not in fantastic Chinese, but it was written and sung from our hearts.

Xie xie ni, xie xie ni
Wo men tong shen gan xie ni
Xie xie ni, xie xie ni
Wo men yong yuan xiang nian ni.

You yu ni, you yu ni,
Wo men xue dao xing chen yu
You yu ni, you yu ni,
Wo men kao dao qi.

Xie xie ni, xie xie ni
Wo men tong shen gan xie ni
Xie xie ni, xie xie ni
Wo men yong yuan xiang nian ni.

Thank you Lao Shi. I won’t disappoint you, I promise.

I received quite an unexpected letter from my Aunt in response to my thank-you letter.

“I am also most pleased to learn that you are enjoying yourself in ACS. I am sorry that I did not spend more time with you when you were in our office. I was under the impression that you would be there for a few days and had hoped to give you lunch. As you know I am not the most maternal of your aunts and most of the time, feel I am just chasing my own tail! As you will learn when you start work, work is often endless, even if it is gratifying.”

This fellow's wise enough to play the fool,
And to do that well craves a kind of wit.
He must observe their mood on whom he jests,
The quality of persons, and the time,
And, like the haggard, check at every feather
That comes before his eyes. This is a practice
As full of labour as a wise man's art.
For folly that he wisely shows is fit;
But wise men, folly-fall'n, quite taint their wit.
